Team India supporters in Dubai were left stunned after the skipper, Rohit Sharma, was dismissed in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on Sunday.

After giving his side the perfect start in their chase of 252, Rohit continued to go hard at the bowlers early on, scoring 76 off 83 balls. His knock had as many as seven boundaries and three sixes as well, which put New Zealand on the back foot.

The Kiwis were building the pressure up, thanks to some fine bowling by the likes of Michael Bracewell and Rachin Ravindra. The latter, in the 27th over, picked up on Rohit looking to come down the ground and opted to bowl it wide on the off-side. The Indian captain looked to play the inside-out shot but failed to get bat on ball, resulting in his stumping.

This comes after the wickets of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in the 18th and 19th over, respectively, which allowed New Zealand to get themselves back in the hunt.

The Black Caps won the toss and elected to bat first in Dubai after they suffered an early blow when fast bowler Matt Henry missed out due to a shoulder injury.

India came in unchanged from their win over Australia in the semi-final, and their four spinners kept the opposition on the backfoot for a large part of the 50 overs.

Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each on a sluggish pitch that has aided the slow bowlers in the 50-over tournament played in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.

India have played all their matches in Dubai after they refused to tour hosts Pakistan due to political tensions and have been unbeaten at the venue in four matches.

Mitchell made 63 and put on key stands before the left-handed Bracewell smashed an unbeaten 53 off 40 balls to boost the total.
