Rohit Sharma has entered his name in the history books on Sunday by becoming the seventh Indian batter to score 1000 or more runs in ODIs against New Zealand.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma on Sunday (March 9) joined legendary Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar in an elite list of batters. Rohit, who is leading the world No. 1 ODI team in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand currently underway at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, opened his account in the 252-run chase by hammering a six on the second ball of the first over bowled by Kyle Jamieson.
The maximum in the first over helped Rohit complete 1000 runs in ODIs against New Zealand. The ongoing match in Dubai is Rohit’s 31st 50-over match against the Black Caps, and he now has more than 1000 runs to his name.
He is the seventh Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, and Kohli to score 1000 or more runs in ODIs against New Zealand.

The record of scoring most runs in ODIs for India against New Zealand is in the name of Tendulkar. During his more than two-decade-long international career, Tendulkar played 42 matches and scored 1750 runs. He is followed by Kohli, who has hammered 1656 runs in 32 matches.
In the ongoing match, Kohli will have a chance to break Tendulkar’s record and become India’s leading run scorer in the 50-over format of the game against New Zealand.
Kohli has been in red-hot form these days. In the semifinal match played against Australia in Dubai on March 4, the 36-year-old right-handed batter scored 84 runs from 98 balls with the help of five fours.
During the Group A match against Pakistan in Dubai on February 23, the former India captain scored 100 runs from 111 balls to help Rohit Sharma’s men chase down the target of 242 runs in 42.3 overs for the loss of just four wickets.
